"For the third booklet, beyond visual elements of text and images, I incorporated an olfactory component. I believe 'goodbye' holds deeply personal sensory memories, embodying the Proust Effect, where specific smells trigger vivid and emotional recollections.
Accordingly, I blended three distinct perfumes, each corresponding to a stage of life, and placed them in decorated glass vials. These included:
Childhood (Honey Drop: a sweet, candy-like scent)
Adulthood (Drifting Ties: a complex, ethereal aroma)
Old Age (Earthsong: a transcendent, natural fragrance)
Furthermore, I created three corresponding description cards, detailing each perfume's name, its key notes, and a representative photograph for that life stage. The poignant moments of farewell make memory truly tangible.
Through scent, these booklets aim to transport the audience to imagined scenes in the photo on the cards.
